Our Core Initiatives
Promoting independence and providing support in our community.
Building Brighter Futures is our capital campaign to build a new, modern shelter for those experiencing homelessness in our community. Through the generosity of Columbia County River Haven has obtained ownership of the current family shelter and parking lot where the shelter will be built.
By combining multiple shelters into one building, we’ll be able to provide better oversight, security, and financial stewardship. We’ll also have office and meeting space available for private meetings and community demonstrations, allowing us to better serve those in need.
Case Management
With a focus on providing a safe haven and supportive community, River Haven’s case manager works closely with clients to address key issues and overcome obstacles. From mental health and addiction to domestic violence and human trafficking, we have a range of resources and support services to help individuals in need.
Secure Housing
River Haven offers a safe haven for those in need of secure housing. We offer resources for rental assistance and section 8 rental assistance while providing temporary shelter to help our community members get on their feet. Our care team guides clients through the application process and provide support every step of the way.
Referrals
Our case managers help refer clients to the applicable services. We help residents overcome one barrier at a time from mental health, housing, healthcare and domestic violence.
Common referrals include AODA, ADRC, FSET, and W2.

Recognized By Congress
River Haven is the only homeless shelter in Columbia County, and the only chance some folks have to turn their life around.
Tina had a normal life, she had a job, was married, and was purchasing a home when she got into a terrible car accident. After the accident, she was put on pain medication which she became addicted to and he life began to spiral downward.
When Tina got out of rehab, her case worker provided her with two options: go back to her old life or go to River Haven. She says "If River Haven hadn't been an option, I know I would be dead."
River Haven Homeless Shelter was able to provide Tina the stability and resources she needed to finish her recovery. Today, she is living independently, and volunteers regularly at River Haven. With your generous donations, River Haven also hopes to bring her on as a front desk attendant at the river haven offices.
